History
Longstep, then Longkit, was born an only child and therefore never had to share as he grew up. His naturally quiet nature caused him to avoid the other loud, rowdy kits in the nursery, and this avoidance eventually grew into a loathing. The noise of their playing hurt his ears, and when he finally started leaving the nursery, the noise of camp was simply overwhelming to him. He turned to anger to cope with his feelings of neglect as he couldn't participate in many things for the hustle and bustle of the other cats, and Longkit grew into a bitter, lonely apprentice. His mentor, Silentsong, was a strong but quiet tom who taught him well in both skills of the claw and the mind. The tom's lack of emotional support, however, ended up causing a failure in teaching Longpaw how to manage his hatred of the masses, and Longstep graduated to a warrior despite not being emotionally ready.

Most cats wouldn't notice the tom's anger, simply steering clear of him due to the lazy, proud glare he would send towards all who would come near as he learned to carefully guard himself with a wall of confidence and self-righteousness. This burning hatred, however, appeared one day while he was on patrol by the FoxClan border. His patrol had been filled by young, recently graduated warriors who had no boundaries and completely ignored any signals from Longstep that they were not to talk to him except in that they quickly began to tease the older tom, calling him grouchy and anti-social. As he ignored their sneers, they only become bolder and harsher, until he snapped at them- but right as he did, a FoxClan patrol appeared at the border. The already-angry LeafClan patrol quickly leapt to attack as soon as a single word of distrust came from the muzzles of the FoxClan cats, and a young apprentice was caught in Longstep's furious claws. It was only when another patrol lead by his mentor showed up to chase off the invaders did Longstep let go of the blue-grey she-cat, as even as a warrior he still listened to Silentsong above all others- and when Silentsong yelled for the first time Longstep had ever heard, that was when the tom realized that he was nearly killing the enemy apprentice. He hasn't seen the young cat since, although the image of the blood dripping from her back and her tail having been ripped off in his own blind rage still haunts him. As much as he doesn't care for other cats in the slightest, that FoxClan cat is the only cat he has ever felt guilt for hurting.

Writing Example
Via The-Starless-Fjords

"I caught it! Er, well, you caught it, but... I helped catch it!" Limppaw beamed excitedly, bouncing up to their mentor with a grin. They'd never actually made a catch before today, and couldn't help but have a bounce in their step as they walked around the fish, circling and examining it. In reality is was rather small and unimpressive, but in Limppaw's eyes, it was the biggest, most beautiful fish they'd ever seen.
If only Frogkit were here; I bet he would've been a great hunter! Despite the thought's negative indications, Limppaw soon realized that the thought hadn't saddened them- for the first time since their brother died, they weren't upset about thinking of him. They grinned despite themselves, appearing to be grinning about to catch, but, truly, they were smiling because of the thought of their brother, and how happy he made them even while he was gone.
